Trust Administration

What is Trust Administration?

Trust Administration is the process by which assets in an estate are distributed according to the procedure defined in a Trust.

Who Administers a Trust?

A trust document will typically name a successor trustee.

How Long Does Trust Administration Take?

Trust administration can vary depending on the size and complexity of the trust. A typical trust administration will run anywhere from four months to a year.

Can I Do This On My Own?

While it is theoretically possible for a trustee to administer a trust without an attorney, we would not advise it. Much like cutting your own hair, such things are theoretically possible; however, the results are often less than desirable. Additionally, any money saved is generally offset by a less than professional result. The attorneys and staff at Broderick Legal Group have expertise in trust administration and all of the considerable steps necessary to make sure that the trust is administered correctly, accurately, and properly and without triggering any liability to the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board or to any beneficiaries or creditors, whether known or unknown. Costs of trust administration are generally paid out of the trust itself and the peace of mind of knowing that trust administration is done correctly the first time cannot be overstated.
